w w Our Laboratory underwent a very successful triennial accreditation survey by The Joint Commission. Of the 1,342 elements of performance that were surveyed, we received just nine minor requirements for improvement. w w Our Sleep Lab was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, reflecting our organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting national standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care. w w After rigorous evaluations, our Diabetes Education program was again recognized by the American Diabetes Association, and our Cardiac Rehabilitation program was recertified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. w w Our Physical and Occupational Therapy department added two new services: vestibular therapy, which is used to treat balance and dizziness problems, and LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment), which is used to treat patients with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. w w Our Trauma Committee began taking part in a national campaign, Stop the Bleed, to educate first responders, teachers and the public about bleeding control. We provided training and Stop the Bleed kits to several area law enforcement and civic groups. w w Our Pharmacy started a pharmacy residency program and accepted two pharmacy residents. w w We made significant investments in information technology infrastructure and programming in order to support the 2018 launch of a new ambulatory electronic medical record in our specialty and family practice clinics. This project is a significant step in our journey toward having a single integrated medical record that will be accessible across the entire organization (inpatient, outpatient, Emergency Department and clinics). w w The Wound Center at Rock Haven Specialty Clinic received a Center of Distinction Award from Healogics. To qualify for the award, centers must achieve outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months and a wound healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 31 median days. Harrisonville Medical Clinic— and by supporting the addition of Jayme Decker, DO, at Harrisonville Family Medicine. We also welcomed family nurse practitioners Molly Urton, MSN, FNP-C (The Wound Center at Rock Haven Specialty Clinic and Peculiar Medical Clinic), and Laura Geoghegan, APRN, FNP-BC (Peculiar Medical Clinic). w w Donors to Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation’s “Boots & Bar-B-Que” fundraiser helped us acquire a new, $60,000 trauma patient simulator, which is used for the ongoing training and preparedness of Cass Regional’s Emergency Department staff and area emergency professionals. w w Our patient satisfaction scores improved in the Emergency, Ambulatory Surgery, Medical Practice and Outpatient Services departments over the prior year. At the end of 2017, our Emergency Department patient satisfaction ranked in the top 25 percent nationally on “overall rating of care.” w w The Helping Hands Project, which is coordinated by our Auxiliary, gave our patients nearly 1,500 comfort items, including cough pillows, rice bags, walker caddy bags, lap throws, shawls and hats. The items were made and donated by several groups and individuals from the region. w w The Auxiliary’s Hospitality Cart provided refreshments totaling more than $3,000 to patients and visitors to make visits to the Cass Regional campus more enjoyable.
