Wellness Matters | Fall 2017 3 The Cass Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has been honored by the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries for their volunteer services. The award was presented on Thursday, Nov. 2, at a luncheon during the Missouri Hospital Association’s 95th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Missouri. Cass Regional’s Auxiliary was selected 2017 “Auxiliary of the Year” in Category 1. The organization’s members were recognized for outstanding service between June 30, 2016, and June 30, 2017, and for their exceptional efforts as an auxiliary representing a hospital with between one and 30 licensed beds. Customer service, comfort and charity In 2016, the Auxiliary’s 68 volunteering members donated 14,961 hours of service to Cass Regional. The group also: w w Raised $14,018 for priority projects, including nearly $6,000 for hospital equipment and $1,500 in scholarships for local students. w w Operated the Hospitality Cart, which provided refreshments totaling more than $3,400 to patients and visitors. w w Coordinated the Helping Hands Project, which provided 1,542 handmade comfort items—such as cough pillows, rice bags, walker caddy bags, lap throws, shawls and hats—to Cass Regional patients. The items are made and donated by Auxilians and several other groups and individuals from the region. Three times a year, Auxiliary members also encourage patients, visitors and staff to place ribbons on a tree in the hospital’s rotunda to honor and remember those affected by heart disease RIBBONS FOR A CAUSE: The Auxiliary’s Cancer Remembrance Tree is one of three trees adorned in honor and memory of those affected by heart disease and cancer. Through the Celebration of Life Tree during American Heart Month in February, the Cancer Remembrance Tree in June and the Breast Cancer Awareness Tree in October, the group raises funds to support the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen.
